![]() This system was developed to reduce the energy load of the house, and shorten construction time. When viewing the plan, I noticed how the simple roof design and the vaulted ceilings were well suited for a SIP (Structural-Insulate-Panel) system for the roof. It also shades the interior from the summer sun by putting the ends of the house on the east/west axis. The south facing roof design prepared the home for future photo voltaic panel placement. So, the roof was designed with a shallow pitch that mostly faced south. In this case the view was to the north and the breezes came from the south. The site location dictates the view, the direction of cooling winds, and how the passing of the sun relates to the house design. ![]() The SIPS roof appeared to be our “greenest” option.īill: Every custom job has its own set of design variables. There is also very little waste since the panels are pre-cut by the fabricator. Bill Moore recommended that we consider the SIPS roof because it is extremely well insulated and sealed. These panels are usually made from expanded polystyrene sandwiched between two sheets of OSB. Roselind: I understand that you used a SIPS roof ? What is this? Why was it selected?Ĭheryl: Yes, we decided to use a SIPS roof, which stands for Structural Insulated Panels. Thanks to Cheryl Cosway and Bill Moore for sharing their thoughts. This is a blog series on the green elements of this “5-Star Energy Rated” house. Their passion for building green, combined with Bill’s technical knowledge, led to a truly sustainable home – built with sensitivity to the health of it occupants, use of energy, cost factors, footprint on the land, and to its impact on the environment as a whole. Manufactured with an extraordinary new combination of fiberglass reinforced thermoset (FRT) polymer, our products’ FRT skin bonds to a rigid polyurethane insulating foam core designed to continuously insulate and seal the building envelope from air and moisture infiltration.ĬPBS’s Composite Structural Insulated Panel (C-SIP) and Composite Structural Insulated Sheathing (C-SIS) building products are unique, high-tech solutions that outperform conventional Structural Insulated Panel (SIP) and Structural Insulated Sheathing (SIS) products by delivering maximum energy efficiency and building envelope performance. When Cheryl and Eric Cosway decided to build their dream home in the hill country south of Austin they teamed up with Bill Moore, Austin’s original green builder. What can you do to defeat high utility bills that are guaranteed to increase? CPBS designed and manufactured these innovative wall panel and sheathing products to meet and exceed the 2015 Energy Codes. average annual utility bill has increased more in the last five years than any other five year period and utility rates are forecast to climb significantly higher in 2015 and beyond…there are no reductions in utility rates anticipated. ![]() CPBS’s multi-functional wall panels and multi-tasking sheathing offer unparalleled energy savings, environmental efficiency and long term sustainability in both structural and non-structural applications. Composite Panel Building Systems (CPBS) has created several new superior, high performance building products by combining proven materials and systems performance with revolutionary advances in building science, designed to replace traditional construction methods used by most new home builders, remodeling and energy retrofit firms. ![]()
